Perth South Tax Bill
Perth South’s Property taxes are divided into three separate taxes:
Perth South tax levy – This levy is set by Perth South Council to support the infrastructure, programs and services it delivers.
Perth County tax levy – This levy is set by Perth County Council to support the programs and services they deliver.
Education Levy – This levy is set by the Province of Ontario and is allocated to the four local school boards.
Perth South’s Budget
Each year Perth South Council develops a balanced budget that identifies Council’s priorities and allocates funding to the services and programs delivered throughout the year.
The annual budget is made up of two sections: operating and capital and is further divided into business units that are tax levy supported or user fee supported.
The operating budget supports the day-to-day programs and services that are delivered to the community.
The tax levy supported business units are: General Government Administration - council, election, and municipal office administration and operations, etc.; Protection of People and Property - fire, police, conservation authorities, by-law enforcement, animal control, etc.; Transportation Services - public works staff, yards, equipment maintenance, road and bridge maintenance, etc.; Environmental Services – landfills, etc.; Health Services – cemetery; Recreation & Culture – recreation, community facilities, libraries, etc.; and Planning and Development – planning and zoning, drainage, etc.
The user fee supported business units include: water systems, street lights, building department services, and in part, waste, recycling and recreation. Separate business units are prepared to ensure that expenses are recovered from those who use the programs and services.
The capital budget includes the upgrading or replacement of infrastructure such as buildings, roads and bridges.
